Kristina and Jeff’s Love Story Deets and Advice for Future Couples Getting Married!

1. How did you meet each other? Please share any fun or juicy details of your love story!

Kristina’s Story:

I had just started working when I spotted a handsome handlebar mustache from across the manufacturing floor. Immediately I had the biggest crush! I needed to have an excuse to talk to him in order to lure him into asking me out. Fortunately, we started to work together when I took on a project that needed Jeff’s electrical engineering expertise. During our time working together, I tried SO hard to get us to hang out together! I knew that he enjoyed running so I formed a work team for a mud run as an excuse to see him outside of work. Of course, I was too awkward during the run to talk to him.

Finally, after months of blushing whenever we were around each other and getting excited over an accidental leg brush (both, unbeknownst to each other), I finally got the courage to ask Jeff out. Our first date was so romantic. We had drinks at Wynkoop Brewery, crashed by Jeff’s friends, and ended with some epic dance moves at Cowboy Lounge. I apparently impressed Jeff with my white-girl dance moves because he asked me to go to a dinner/silent auction a week later.

Jeff’s Story:

I first noticed a pretty young thing walking around the halls at work and just figured she was some sales person because there’s no way a girl that pretty is an engineer. I noticed her more and finally figured out she was an engineer. Lucky for me she kept coming back to me for information about one of our products. She lured me into doing the Insanity Mud Run with the promise of cookies. I’m so glad I signed up for that run even though I never got those cookies because I had a blast hanging out with her.

Kristina awkwardly asked me out for drinks after work. I didn’t think it was much more than drinks because Kristina said she was going to her friend’s house warming party. However, she kept delaying leaving and we ended up having a blast making fools of ourselves at the Cowboy Lounge. I just couldn’t resist asking her out again.

2. Best memory of your Willow Ridge Manor wedding?

There are SO many!  One of my favorites was when the DJ played our favorite Irish drinking song “Seven Drunken Nights”by Sin e Ri Ra.  Both the young and the old were jumping around the dance floor stomping their feet and shouting the lyrics at their significant other.  Even my parents (divorced) had a blast dancing and singing to each other during it!

My other favorite was our vows.  My  husband’s best friend married us, and we looked into meaningful speeches and quotes.  I can’t even begin to describe how much love we felt when we were looking  into each other’s eyes and holding hands during the ceremony, hearing those words spoken to us; they were able to describe our love and the future that we wanted wanted with each other so perfectly.  Jeff’s favorite part was the first look because we were able to have alone time together.

3. Advice to future couples as they plan their wedding?

  • Don’t sweat the small stuff!  I never once looked at our table decorations and didn’t notice any of the other decorations we set up.  The simpler you are, the less you worry about on the days up to the wedding.

  • We did a “unique” guest book where we had people write down “an idea, a plan, but most importantly an adventure to add to our lifetime bucket list” and leave them in envelopes.  We read them the day after the wedding and it was awesome!  I cried more (of happiness) reading them than I did at the wedding!  And it is so cool that we can pick out of a basket for our next vacation and many more to come!

  • If you have a lace dress, it’s a good idea to get the bustle hemmed a tiny bit higher than normal. Your bridesmaids are likely to not tie it as tight as the seamstress does. My heel kept getting stuck in the back of it the whole night!  Speaking of heels, buy invisible heel straps to keep your heels on all night.

  • Something is going to go wrong, and trust me, you shouldn’t care, those are going to turn into hilarious memories.  I’ve heard of so many brides having such high expectations and then ruin the wedding for themselves when something goes wrong; you don’t want that!  In our wedding, the caterer apparently almost dropped the cake (I didn’t even notice but was told by tons of guests), the bus left without my bridal party (they were sufficiently intoxicated and rolling around on the floor in the bridal room at the end of the night, my husband and I passed the bus on the highway and I had to call it to turn back around…extremely hilarious now), and our officiant called my husband a “her” instead of “him” during the “Do I promise to love [him] etc. etc.”  Some champagne helped with a witty response to that! Anyways, the point is…the day is not going  to be perfect, you should NOT expect it to be, and make sure to go into it ready to laugh at and embrace the things that go wrong!

  • Delegate, delegate, delegate!  You do not want to think about doing anything on your wedding day.  Also… pack up your “getting ready” items before the ceremony starts.  That way, when your ride arrives everything is together and you just have to grab it!  I relied on my bridesmaids…big mistake!

4. Where did you go on your honeymoon? What was your favorite part?

We went to Barbados. The best part for both of us was getting scuba certified while we were there.  Now I love it!

{emma + leron} Four Seasons Hotel Denver Wedding | Denver Wedding Photographer

Denver Wedding Photographer | Kathryn Kim Photography | Four Seasons Hotel Denver Wedding

I was thrilled when Emma and LeRon told me they were having a small, intimate Four Seasons Hotel Denver Wedding. This hotel is absolutely gorgeous, and I love a chance to get out and shoot in downtown Denver. It is fun to change up the scenery and test yourself to be creative!

Ok so, the first thing you need to know is that Emma and LeRon laugh A LOT. LeRon thinks Emma is hilarious, and it’s just the cutest thing. These two are so much fun to be around, and I just adore them! They are so comfortable together, and it’s obvious that they feel at home in each other’s presence. I did their engagement photos that you may recall here. We shot at the beautiful Lookout Mountain in Golden, then squeezed in an in home session at their amazing house in Denver. We ended the engagement session in downtown Denver at a fun little spot, Tattered Cover Bookstore!

Emma doesn’t like being the center of attention, therefore they had a very small, 10 person wedding. It was laid back, simple, elegant and totally family oriented. It was totally perfect for the two of them! They shared the sweetest first look right outside of the Four Seasons Hotel, where they both teared up! Talk about precious. And we wandered around the city taking fun and gorgeous bride and groom portraits. The entire wedding day was a blast!

Emma and LeRon, it was an honor to photograph your lovely Four Seasons Hotel Denver Wedding, and I wish you two the best in your sweet marriage! Enjoy my favorite photos of this downtown Denver wedding!

{styled shoot} breckenridge colorado wedding photographers | hoosier pass photos | kathryn kim photography

Hoosier Pass Photos | Breckenridge Colorado wedding photographers | Kathryn Kim Photography | Colorado Mountain Wedding Photographer | Colorado Elopement Photographer | Breckenridge Colorado Wedding Photos

This styled shoot in Breckenridge was an absolute dream! I teamed up with my friend Melissa of Salty Spruce Studio, and we dreamed up a snowy winter wonderland shoot in the mountains of Colorado. Since we are both Breckenridge Colorado wedding photographers, it just made sense to have the shoot in Breck! We found these 2 lovely couples to model for us, who were visiting Breckenridge for a ski trip. They came all the way from Seattle for some beautiful Hoosier Pass photos!

Since this was my first styled shoot, I wanted to keep it simple. Melissa and I made the bouquets ourselves, and I feel like we did a pretty amazing job! Just sayin! We were thrilled to find plenty of snow on the ground and even in the beautiful aspen trees. I love the combo of the forest setting with the mountain top setting. It was absolute perfection!

Despite how cold it may look, the weather was actually amazing for the shoot! I was sweating in my winter coat from running around like a crazy photographer lady. Our models were getting a bit chilly by the end, but they were great sports!

If you are in search of Breckenridge Colorado wedding photographers, look no further! I am your girl! Email me now and let’s chat about your Colorado mountain wedding! kathryn@kathrynkimphotography.com. I can’t wait to hear more about your incredible wedding day! {alyssa + josh} hudson gardens wedding | littleton colorado wedding photographer

Hudson Gardens Wedding | Kathryn Kim Photography | Littleton Colorado Wedding Photographer

Alyssa and Josh are such a sweet and precious couple, and I had a blast photographing their Hudson Gardens Wedding! Let me give you a little background on these two sweeties. Here is their love story according to Alyssa.

When Josh and I met, I knew that it wasn’t just about chance. There are many things that prepare us for the one that we marry. I think that the most amazing thing about meeting my husband is that it was the perfect timing. Josh and I grew up in Colorado Springs, but we went to different high schools. As it turns out, he knew my best friend growing up and I knew his best friend. We realized that we knew a lot of the same people. But we had never actually met until we both moved and went to college up at Colorado Christian University.

We met in choir and I remember learning his name with a “getting to know you” game. When our choir split up into separate groups, my group told me that we strive to be the “mothers” of the choir. To reach out to our fellow choir members if we saw them sitting alone on campus. I really took that to heart, which is why in a different class that Josh and I shared, I saw him sitting alone and I said hello.Normally I wouldn’t have done this, but I felt a strong urge to do this because of what my group had said. We began to talk and he said that he knew my best friend and so I couldn’t wait to talk to him more.

After about a week of us getting to know each other, we went on a date to Voodoo Donuts. He took me out because I had a rough day and then we ended up talking until 3am. We shared our hopes, dreams, fears, and wants. We shared everything that you possibly could with someone who seemed like a stranger. It amazed me how vulnerable I could be with this guy that I had just met. The even more amazing thing was that he was vulnerable with me too. After that night, we decided to give each other a chance and right away we knew that we wanted to spend our lives together.

Looking back on how we met, it reminds me of how people say, “I wish that I could have met you sooner.” I said that to Josh, and he replied with, “I’m glad we didn’t. A year ago, I would not have been prepared to meet my wife because back then I was a different person.” I am so grateful that I met Josh when I did. He had to be sculpted into the man that I fell in love with. And I had to be sculpted into the woman that he fell in love with. Soon after our year of college ended, we moved back to the Springs.  We started saving and preparing to marry each other. It only took a little over a year and a half for us to get married, but we could hardly wait for our lives to begin!

If you are getting married at Hudson Gardens, (or any other venue 😉 I would love to be your photographer! Please email me and let’s chat! kathryn@kathrynkimphotography.com

{kim + dave} denver colorado wedding | university club of denver wedding

Denver Colorado Wedding | University Club of Denver Wedding | Kathryn Kim Photography

Kim and Dave’s downtown Denver Colorado Wedding was super unique and quirky just like the two of them! This was my first time shooting at the University Club of Denver, and it was a fabulous little venue with so much character and charm! You would never guess that it was located right in the middle of downtown Denver! I absolutely love the chandeliers, library, and ceremony/reception room!

Let me give you a little backstory on these two! Kim was casually dating another guy in California when she and Dave first met. They had some mutual friends, and Kim was immediately attracted to Dave. She realized she was complimenting him in front of her other dude without even meaning to- oopsie! Eventually she and this other guy broke up, and she and Dave started talking immediately and constantly. They talked long distance for a few months, and got to know each other super well. Then Kim came to visit Dave in Colorado.

They went on their first date on Halloween, and Kim told Dave she loved him on the first date! He said it back, and they were both ecstatic about where the relationship was going, but trying not to show it TOO much. Soon after, Kim made the move to Colorado and their relationship sky rocketed from there. Eventually they were engaged, and planning their Denver Colorado wedding!

Are you getting married at the University Club of Denver? It is a delightfully charming venue, and you are going to love it so much! I would love to be your wedding photographer, so please give me a shout! I would love to be your photographer no matter the location!

Enjoy these favorite photos of mine from Kim and Dave’s wedding!
